Pesky Period Cramps

Updated: Mar 17, 2023

Sharp, achy, dull, throbbing. However they feel, they are a pain in the uterus.

As "normal" as cramps are, they are not actually normal! As Lara Briden, ND says in her book Period Repair Manual, "your period is your monthly report card". It give us a good idea of what is happening inside your body and how to address it.

Painful periods are not necessary. Your period should come and go without any fanfare.

When it comes to acupuncture and your period, we are going to as you a lot of questions. A lot. We are nosy and want to know it all.

What sort of questions, you ask? Here are a few examples:

  • How long is your cycle?

  • How many days do you bleed?

  • Is it heavy or light?

  • What color is it?

  • Are there any clots? What size?

  • If you have PMS, what to do you experience? Cramps? Irritability? Insomnia? Increased bowel movements? Breast tenderness? Night sweats? Headaches?

These are all things we as a society don't typically talk about, so we know it can be uncomfortable. But we aren't shy and you don't need to be either. We have heard it all.

You've bared your soul, now what?

Now we come up with a treatment plan and work on that report card!

It typically takes three cycles to see a change. Some people will feel and see a change sooner than that, but all bodies are different so don't feel discouraged if you don't.

We look for subtle changes in the beginning. For example, maybe that first period came and you noticed that your cramps were a 5/10 when they are typically an 8/10. And you know what, you didn't get a headache before.

These are great signs that your body is doing the work to heal itself. And we keep building on that success.

Have you had acupuncture for your cycle, or anything else?
